Douglas Broeker is the Managing Member of the Miami office of Sweetapple, Broeker & Varkas, P.L., is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell and recognized by “Best Lawyers in America” and “Super Lawyers”. Additionally, he has held certifications in Business Litigation (2001 – 2011) and mediation, chaired the 11th Circuit Fee Arbitration Committee, and participated as a member and Vice Chair of the Florida Bar 11th Circuit Bar Grievance Committee. Doug has handled a variety of complex and unique litigation matters since 1980 in pretrial litigation, at trial or on appeal in state and federal courts throughout the state of Florida, as well as New Jersey, and Texas. Substantial cases range from Accreditation, Accountancy and Admiralty to Real Estate, Securities and Unfair Competition, and include Business Contract and Tort Disputes, Bank Litigation, Investment Fraud, Food Products and Food Safety, Real Estate Litigation and Licensure Proceedings, Bankruptcy Litigation, pursing Recusals or Disqualifications, Resort, Aquatic and Food Born Injuries, and Wrongful Death.
Over the past fifteen years, following client insistence that he handle their transactions as well, Doug has also developed a business transaction practice.
Doug has actively volunteered to advance community affairs through his involvement in the Morningside Civic Association, serving as committee chair for City of Miami’s “North East Task Force”, co-authoring the City of Miami’s Nuisance Abatement Ordinance, serving as legal counsel to Miami’s Nuisance Abatement Board (1993-2013), and serving as chair for multiple Mission Conferences for the Greater Biscayne Boulevard Chamber of Commerce. During these years, he has participated a renaissance of the northeast section of the City of Miami from a crime ridden “Greater Biscayne Boulevard Area” to the thriving “Upper Eastside”. Doug has also been actively involved with the Coral Reef Yacht Club, Biscayne Bay Yacht Racing Association and Miami Shores Presbyterian Church.
